The Restoration Story

Behind-the-scenes on how we rescue rusted vintage hulls and turn them into hand-crafted mobile homes for modern road trips.

Handcrafted in the Slow Lane

We believe vintage campers hold stories that shouldn't be lost to rust. Every Driftline camper is rebuilt in our workshop using local sustainable woods, custom copper piping, and retro textiles.

Our team spends between 6 to 12 months on a single van. We strip it down to the bare steel frame, treat any rust, paint it with historic vintage colors, and construct a bespoke camper interior from scratch.

Resto-Mod Philosophy

While we preserve the classic vintage dashboards, dials, and body outlines, we update the core mechanics. Our vans feature modern disc brakes, electronic ignitions, custom radiators, and solar-power stations.

Our Craft Journey

1. The Rescue

Month 1

We scour barns and dry desert backyards to find forgotten camper shells. We bring them home and strip them down to inspect the chassis, ensuring structural steel integrity before any build steps.

2. Rebuilt Heart

Months 2 - 4

We completely overhaul the original engines. We install modern carburetors or fuel injectors, upgrade the drum brakes to modern power disc brakes, replace suspension links, and add heavy-duty cooling systems.

3. Bespoke Carpentry

Months 5 - 8

Our carpentry team takes over. We build subfloors, add high-R insulation (using sustainable wool), and build custom cabinetry using lightweight woods like cedar and marine plywood. Custom copper sinks and dinette frames are shaped by hand.

4. Solar & Power Grid

Month 9

Vans get high-tech solar grids. We install thin-film flexible solar panels on the roof, connected to auxiliary battery banks. This powers custom LED lights, small refrigerators, USB outlets, and water pumps without draining the engine battery.
